Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a minimum order quantity?
There is no minimum order quantity. The product is available in 25kg bags or 1 Ton Supersacks/Jumbosacks.
Do you offer discounts for larger orders?
Yes, we offer a tiered pricing structure, pricing and details available on application.
How long does the solidification process take?
Typically this should occur within 15mins – 1 hour depending on the factors mentioned below:
Type Of Mixing Methodology
Using SlimDril equipment, manual mixing with excavator in a bin or pit, or other mixing mechanisms. In general, the more mixing, the faster the reaction time.
The easiest way is to mix with an excavator in a bin or pit, or you can simply use a shovel if preferred. The key is in the mixing. If the product is just ‘thrown in’ it will not perform; it is when it is mixed in thoroughly that you can expect to get the best results - and quickly.
Ambient Temperature
The solidification reaction will take longer at colder temperatures; however, it will perform across a range of temperatures from -40oC to 50oC, -40C to 50C.
Liquid Material CharacteristiCS Characteristics
If the water content in the liquid is mainly ‘free water’ then the reaction time will be significantly faster than a mixture of clay and water.
Does MUDD-DRY contain any toxic compounds or contaminants?
No, MUDD-DRY is environmentally friendly and does not contain any contaminants or toxins. Classification of the solidified material will not change; if the liquid is ‘clean’, then the solidified material will also be ‘clean’. If the liquid is contaminated, then the solidified material will also be contaminated.
Does pH have an impact on solidification?
Potentially. MUDD-DRY performs well within a wide pH range of 3.5–13.
Does MUDD-DRY have any adverse effects on pH and Microbials in the soil?
No, this is one of the key benefits of using MUDD-DRY as a reagent.
Can I stack the material on the job site?
Yes, the solidified material can be stacked on the job site like any normal soil. There is the added benefit of evaporation and weight loss if sufficient time is given, and assuming good weather. The material can lose significant weight through natural evaporation, and due to the exponentially higher surface area of the stacked solidified material versus a flat liquid surface, the evaporation rate will be high.
Can I re-use solidified material for other purposes?
Yes, although it will depend on the exact application and type of liquid material that was solidified. SlimDril are actively involved in researching novel beneficial reuse purposes for the solidified material, such as using the solidified material as backfill, or using the solidified material as a soil amendment on agricultural fields.
What happens if I add too little MUDD-DRY?
It will be apparent that the MUDD-DRY dosage is too low if the material still does not solidify after 1 hour of mixing. Simply add more reagent and continue mixing until the material solidifies.
What happens if I add too much MUDD-DRY?
There will not be any negative impact from adding too much MUDD-DRY; the solidification process will be faster, but the economics will be impacted.
What are Super Absorbent Polymers (SAP)?
SAPs are highly absorbent materials designed to retain large quantities of moisture to quickly solidify wet soils. Used extensively in applications like directional drilling and tunnelling, SAPs transform liquid-laden waste into dry, stackable solids.
Is MUDD-DRY Biodegradable?
Yes, waste which has been solidified by using MUDD-DRY as a solidification reagent degrades over multiple decades, providing stability in the waste stream.
Why is MUDD-DRY better than using lime, sawdust, ash or cement as a reagent?
These can all significantly increase the volume and pH of the final waste product, making it harder to dispose of and incurring increased costs.
Is MUDD-DRY suitable for large tunnelling projects?
Yes, MUDD-DRY SAP technology offers a fast, cost-effective solution for tunnelling applications. From large bore TBM’s to smaller bore MTBM’s, SAPs solidify wet muck, outperforming traditional absorbers in speed, absorption capacity and safety.
How are Super Absorbent Polymers (SAP) implemented in tunnelling operations?
SAP is applied directly to the wet muck as it exits the tunnel on the conveyor belt. Click here for full methodology details
Are there any restrictions regarding where MUDD-DRY applications can be mixed?
No, because of the safe nature of the product and the simplicity of the mixing process it can be performed onsite or where required.
Does MUDD-DRY prevent liquid waste and slurries from accidentally escaping during transportation?
Yes, this is another benefit of using MUDD-DRY. Solidifying liquid waste and slurries speeds up the drying process enabling faster transportation. Using MUDD-DRY can often enable contractors to take on projects they would otherwise have had to turn down.
Is MUDD-DRY beneficial for Aggregate companies and hauliers or is it just for their clients?
MUDD-DRY is hugely popular in the Aggregate industry due to the fact it speeds up the transportation process, helping hauliers transport quicker and more effectively, ultimately enabling project and site managers to meet deadlines and increase customer service.
